Malayalam film industry is blessed with many talented actors. Before headlining as movie stars, many of our actors had worked as presenters of TV programs. The experience they have got from channels studios, obviously help them to face the movie camera confidently. Here is the list of Malayalam movie stars who started out as TV anchors.
1. Parvathy
Talented actress Parvathy, who made her debut with the 2006 Malayalam film Out of Syllabus, started her career as a television anchor at Kiran TV by hosting the program Tamil hits. Later, she moved to Kairali TV and anchored the program, Hello Good evening. Undoubtedly, she is one of the highly talented actresses currently working in Malayalam film industry.
2. Sshivada
Pretty actress Sshivada, who shot to fame by playing the leading lady in the Jayasurya starrer Su… Su… Sudhi Vathmeekam, has worked as a video jockey in Kairali TV and its subordinate channel We TV. During that period, she was noticed by director Fazil and offered her the lead role in his next movie, Living Together. She has even worked as a dubbing artist for the movie Ramante Edanthottam.
3. Nayanthara
Before conquering south Indian film industry, beauty queen Nayanthara has worked as an anchor in Kairali TV, which eventually paved her a way into film industry. It was prominent director Sathyan Anthikad who spotted her talent and approached her to play the female lead in the movie Manassinakkare opposite Jayaram.
4. Anumol
Award-winning actress Anumol, who played significant roles in movies like Chayilyam, Vedivazhipadu, God for Sale and Akam, has worked as program presenter in various channels including Kairali TV and Amrita TV. She started her film career as an actress with the Tamil movie Kannukkulle directed by Lena Muvendhar.
5. Rajisha Vijayan
Rajisha Vijayan is more popular as an anchor than an actress. She has hosted various programs in channels such as Surya TV, Surya Music and Mazhavil Manorama. Later, she forayed into the Malayalam film industry by playing Elizabeth in Anuraga Karikkin Vellam. She won the Kerala state film award for best actress for her performance in the movie.
6. Asif Ali
Most of us still don’t know the fact that this young man, with an exquisite smile, was once a TV host. Asif has worked as the program presenter and producer in Yes Indiavision, subsidiary channel of Indiavision, which has stopped airing on 31 March 2015. Later, he made his acting debut with Shyamaprasad’s Ritu alongside Nishan and Rima Kallingal.
7. Nazriya Nazim
Before entering into the film industry, Nazriya has worked as the anchor of Shruthilayam, a musical program aired on Kairali TV. Later, she hosted Munch star singer junior, which was aired on Asianet. Her debut movie was Palunku directed by Blessy. She won the Kerala state film award for best actress for her performance in movies Ohm Shanthi Oshaana and Bangalore Days.
