1. 40th film together
‘Oppam’ is the 40th film both Priyadarshan and Mohanlal worked together. But this is their 29th film as a director-actor combination in Malayalam. They started their association from 1984 with the movie ‘Poochakkoru Mookkuthi’. Out of these 40 films, 3 were in other language and one film was unreleased 'Dhanushkodi (1989)'. Mohanlal worked as the narrator for the Priyadarshan movie ‘Amayum Muyalum’ released in 2013.
2. First Crime Thriller
Everyone knows the main forte of Mohanlal Priyadarshan movies is comedy. However, this is the first time both doing a crime thriller movie together. Earlier Priyadarshan has tried a serious subject with Mohanlal in the movie Kalapani, but that movie was not a box office success. In 2013 movie, Geetanjali, was also seen both joining hands together for trying horror genre, which was also bombed at boxoffice.
3. First blind role in a whole movie
This is the first time Mohanlal portraying a visually challenged man in a full movie. He has done the role of a blind character in some scenes in Rajeev Anchal’s Guru and Sangeeth Sivan’s Yodha. As many opthamologists confirms, in this movie Jayaraman’s strength is his hearing and smelling, which give him upper hand in many situations in the movie.
4. Acted in Oppam 30 years back!
Would you believe Mohanlal acted in Oppam 30 years back? Well, it was 1986 movie Oppam Oppathinoppam directed by Soman. Shankar, Menaka, Lalu Alex , Madhuri, Mala and Meena also acted in that movie. It is quite coincidental that he has delivered a blockbuster after 30 years with a movie with similar name.
5. New cast and crew
Priyadarshan always tried same cast in his movies over the years with very few changes. But recent failed attempts in Malayalam made him think differently this time. He was very purposeful to make a film out of his comfort zone and open to make some conscious changes to the cast and technicians. Anusree, Chemban Vinod, Hareesh Perumanna and Aju Varghese got important roles in the film, and they delivered good performance in the movie. He has given opportunity to one of the best editors at the moment in Malayalam cinema, Alphonse Putharen, to edit the trailer. Four debutant music directors Jim, Biby, Eldhose, and Justine of the music band ’4 Musics’ composes the soundtrack and it made the movie more appealing.
6. First Superhit for Vimala Raman in Malayalam
Finally, the so-called unlucky heroine Vimala Raman got a blockbuster through this movie. Earlier she acted as the heroine of Mohanlal in the movie ‘College Kumaran’, but that movie can’t make it big at the box office. Vimala Raman had shared screen space with all Malayalam superstars, with Mammootty in ‘Nasrani’, with Suresh Gopi in ‘Time’ and with Dileep in ‘Romeo’.
