‘Take off’ Malayalam movie Box Office: Was the Parvathy Starrer Movie a Super Hit of 2017?

Take Off, the first feature film by editor Mahesh Narayanan, is widely considered to be the year’s best Malayalam film. The film’s plot is based on events and stars Parvathy Menon, Kunchako Boban, Fahadh Faasil, and Asif Ali.

It’s a true story about the 2014 kidnapping and captivity of a team of Malayali nurses in Iraq’s Tikrit region.

The March 24th premiere of Take Off was met with universal acclaim from critics. The film got out to a poor start but caught up, largely thanks to excellent word of mouth. The film is projected to have made roughly Rs 20 crores after accounting for the balance of India and worldwide gross, satellite, and other rights. During its theatrical release, Take Off faced stiff competition from blockbuster films like The Great Father, 1971 Beyond Borders, Sakhavu, and Puthan Panam.

But it held its own and finished its 50-day theatrical run with a bang. In memory of the late director Rajesh Pillai, Take Off was produced. Rajesh Pillai Films produce it in cooperation with investors Anto Joseph and Shebin Becker. Filmmaker Mekha Rajesh Pillai is also serving as the film’s executive producer.

On March 24, 2017, the film Take Off was released. Satyam Audios released the film’s VCD, DVD, and Blu-ray in the middle of 2017. Actor Kamal Haasan was among those who gave the film positive reviews. The International Film Festival of India and the International Film Festival of Kerala aired the film.

The film’s worldwide box office totaled 25 crore. In its first three weekends, the picture earned $853,101 in the United Arab Emirates, $21,248 in the United Kingdom, and $9,918 in New Zealand. The movie was in theatres for nearly 125 full days. Based on the experiences of Indian nurses in the Iraqi city of Tikrit in 2014, Take Off is a survival thriller film released in India in 2017 and spoken in Malayalam.

Parvathy Thiruvothu, Kunchacko Boban, Fahadh Faasil, and Divya Prabha feature in the first film directed by editor Mahesh Narayan. Mahesh Narayan and P. V. Shajikumar penned it. Scenes were filmed in several locations in both Dubai and Kerala.

In addition to her two Filmfare Awards for Best Actress – Malayalam and two Kerala State Film Awards for Best Actress, Parvathy also received a Special Jury Mention at the 65th National Film Awards. The Hindu ranked it among the top 25 Malayalam movies of the decade.

Was Take Off a Hit or Flop?

Although the initial days of the release of the film did not showcase any effective performance at the box office, word of mouth had helped the fate of the film making it a superhit. Rather than grabbing much collection, the movie had stole hearts of some social conscious audiences having based on a real event and being remembered all time.
