Acclaimed Malayalam filmmaker K.R. Mohanan passes away
Acclaimed Malayalam filmmaker and former director of International Film Festival of Kerala, K.R. Mohanan died at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday evening. He was 69. He had been undergoing treatment for some gastrointestinal disease for the last few weeks here. The funeral will take place today at his hometown, Chavakkad in Thrissur.
Mohanan, a graduate from Film and Television Institute of India, Pune, has directed many movies including Ashwathama (1978), Purushartham (1987) and Swaroopam (1992). Among these, Ashwathama and Purushartham won Kerala state film award for best film. He was also a renowned documentary director. He was the Chairman of Kerala State Chalachitra Academy from 2006 to 2011.
