Kunjali Marakkar is not on the cards, says Priyadarshan
Recently, Megastar Mammootty has confirmed that he will be playing the titular role in the upcoming mega-budget movie Kunjali Marakkar IV directed by cinematographer turned filmmaker Santosh Sivan. But this creates confusion among Malayalam film audiences the movie was already announced by ace filmmaker Priyadarshan, which stars superstar Mohanlal in the lead role. Now, Priyadarshan has come out with an explanation stating that he is dropping the project as the industry doesn’t need two superstars doing films on the same character.
Kunjali Marakkar IV tells the story of Mohammed Ali aka Kunjali IV, a naval chief who openly challenged Zamorin of Calicut by styling himself as the Lord of the Indian seas. The movie, which is jointly scripted by T P Rajeevan and Sankar Ramakrishnan is bankrolled by August Cinemas. Reportedly, research for the movie is currently ongoing and it will take several months to complete. Meanwhile, Priyadarshan is currently busy with the post production works of his next titled as Nimir, which is the Tamil remake of Maheshinte Prathikaaram.
