Christmas, one of the biggest holiday movie seasons, is coming! The Malayalam film industry is going to witness five big releases this season. Let’s have a look at the list of Malayalam Christmas releases of the year.
1. Masterpiece
Masterpiece, starring megastar Mammootty in the lead role is, obviously, the most hyped movie of the season. Mammukka plays rowdy college professor named Edward Livingstone in it. The movie has a huge star cast that includes Unni Mukundan, Gokul Suresh, Santhosh Pandit, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, and Poonam Bajwa among others. Masterpiece is scripted by Udayakrishna of Pulimurugan fame and directed by Ajai Vasudev, who debuted with the Mammootty starrer RajadhiRaja. The movie would be a perfect treat for Malayalam movie buffs who love to watch some high voltage action sequences and punch dialogues on-screen.

2. Vimaanam
Seems movies which are inspired by some real-life characters, is the favourite film category of Prithviraj these days. His forthcoming release Vimaanam, scripted and directed by debutant Pradeep M. Nair, too falls into the same category. It is loosely based on the real-life story of Saji Thomas, a deaf and mute man who made a light-weight aircraft on his own. It also features Durga Krishna, Nedumudi Venu, Sudheer Karamana, Alencier Ley, P Balachandran, Shanthi Krishna and Aanandam fame Anarkali Marikar in important roles.

3. Aadu 2
A sequel to a disastrous movie! Feels meh, right? But, this is what happening with Jayasurya’s Aadu 2. The humongous reception movie has got after the release of DVD might be the factor that motivated the makers to make a sequel to it. The movie, written and directed by Midhun Manuel Thomas, also stars Anson Paul, Vinayakan, Sunny Wayne, Dharmajan Bolgatty, and Saiju Kurup among others. The movie would amass a huge opening day gross from theatres for sure. However, the box-office fate of the movie is certainly unpredictable.

4. Aana Alaralodalaral
Aana Alaralodalaral, a movie which has a tongue-twisting title, also will hit the screens during this Christmas holidays. This village-based social satire movie, scripted by Sarath Balan and directed by Dileep Menon, has Vineeth Sreenivasan playing the lead role. The star cast also includes Anu Sithara, Mamukkoya, Vijayaraghavan, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Hareesh Perumanna, Dharmajan Bolgatty and Vishak Nair. Interestingly, the movie also has Arjun Nandilath, an elephant, playing a crucial role.

5. Mayaanadhi
Mayaanadhi has some really talented artists working on and off-screen. The movie is written by Syam Pushkaran and Dileesh Nair and helmed by Aashiq Abu. Yes! The magical writers-director combination which gave us some really cool movies like Salt N’ Pepper and Idukki Gold. The core story of the movie is written by Amal Neerad. Mayaanadhi is a romantic movie which tells the story of Madhan and Appu played by Tovino Thomas and Aishwarya Lekshmi respectively. It also features Aparna Balamurali, Soubin Shahir and Leona Lishoy in important roles.
