Marco Polo Season 3 Release Date

According to Tonights TV, Marco Polo season 3 has been officially canceled, and there will not be a release date. The show premiered on Netflix on December 12, 2014, and was renewed for a 10-episode second season, which premiered on July 1, 2016.

However, viewing numbers fell far short of the show’s expense, and it was canceled, making it the first Netflix series not to make it to a third season. The show is a fictionalization of Marco Polo’s early years while in the service of Kublai Khan.

What is the reason for the cancellation of Marco Polo?

The cancellation of “Marco Polo” was due to a combination of factors. The show was produced by The Weinstein Company and streamed for two seasons on Netflix.

It was one of the streaming service’s first real gambles as an original content provider, and at the time of its debut, it was one of the most expensive shows ever produced.

Marco Polo Season 3

While the series may have failed to spark the critical acclaim that other Netflix shows have enjoyed, it was a bold experiment that set the stage for future success.

However, viewing numbers fell far short of the show’s expense, and it was canceled, making it the first Netflix series not to make it to a third season. The show received unkind reviews, and there needed to be more cultural excitement surrounding it.

The performance could have been more forgettable, with mediocre acting, dull set pieces, insufficient action, and ill-choreographed martial arts scenes. In addition to a predictable storyline, these issues prevented many audiences from giving the second season a shot if they finished the first season.

Marco Polo Season 3

Netflix has been reluctant to cancel its offerings, but the “Marco Polo” cancellation may be a sign that Netflix will become more selective about endlessly devoting resources to original series.

  3. What a shame. Show was amazing. Very close to GOT imo. I don’t know why Netflix cares about critics opinions anyways because fans loved the show. The problem was that it wasn’t promoted. First I heard of it was like 2 weeks when it popped up on my Netflix feed. I thought the show was brand new. If they simply made an advertising push for it this could easily be one of Netflix’s top 5 best original series. So sad.

  5. Just finished watching season 2 of Marco Polo. I thought it was great. It kept my attention very well. You can’t trust a critic as far as you can throw them. I can’t stand people that make their living off of giving their opinion about anything really. Anyway I know it’s been a while but it would be really cool to do a follow-up season 3 of Marco Polo regardless of how many years have been. Heck if they can put Rambo or the Terminator the closet on a back shelf in a dusty room why not bring back this series. He’s been dead 700 years what’s a few years between seasons. It still has great potential and I feel that Netflix has become too picky. If a show isn’t in the top 2% in rating than it’s a failure and gets cancelled. While you are at it re up UpLoad also.

  8. I just finished the series for a 2nd time a couple nights ago.. And when I finished.. I am sitting there upset because of the way the series ended.. That is my biggest pet peeve. Not letting a show finish itself out in someway, and leaving it undone.

We need a season 3, and as others have said.. If you would of advertised it, you would of probably got more views.

  11. This is the second time we watched the show. We enjoy it just as much as the first time. I agree the second season left us in limbo. Please bring the the 3rd season to finish the story. Nothing is worse then spending your time on a good story only to have it not end.

  13. I’m not one that usually gripes as to whether a show comes or goes but the first 2 seasons of Marco Polo were outstanding. Kept my interest and I found little real fault in the acting or production. How critics can say otherwise means they are out of touch with the viewer. I would think the show deserves a 3rd season. I will watch it. I pay my hard earned for my Netflix subscription and my opinion should count double over self interested critics.

  17. The series Marco Polo is one of the best series I have watched. There needs to be a third one, with the same actors. It’s so frustrating to be hanging in limbo liked this.

  18. Cancelling this show is a travesty. I thought that both seasons were brilliant. Great story-telling, acting and culturally accurate. Even the soundtrack was great.
Critics are paid to give harsh reviews. Most people ignore them and make up their own minds, so perhaps the Harvey Weinstein-shaped elephant in the room had a big part to play in this poor decision.

  19. I’m a history lover, dramatized of in a documentary. For me Marco Polo was as captivating as Vikings or The Last Kingdom. Why then stop after two seasons? As others have said. Promote it seriously, seek cultural subsidies from different countries with an interest, but PLEASE, release season 3! Thanks.

  23. One of the most well done show I have ever seen! All great acting and settings! I think most people are still very ignorant about the Asian cultures, including that of the Mongolians, so I am not surprised not many followed this show. It is much more different than what most people can handle. I am disappointed that there aren’tore viewers as it was a excellent show to watch. Nothing was rushed or colored over…
