Why was Carri suspended from US Olympics?

NBC News states that Sha’Carri Richardson tested positive for marijuana during the U.S. Olympic trials in June 2021. As a result, she was suspended for one month and disqualified from her victory in the 100 meters at the trials. This meant that she could not compete in the 100-meter race at the Tokyo Olympics.

Additionally, she was not selected for the women’s 4×100-meter relay race, which was her last option for competing in the Games.

Richardson admitted to using marijuana as a coping mechanism after learning about the death of her biological mother and the pressure to perform at the trials. She apologized for her actions and regretted not knowing how to control her emotions.
