Thuramukham: Story
The story takes place against workers’ struggles and protests against the “chappa” system and “work guarantee” scheme used at the Mattancherry Harbour in Kochi in the 1940s and 1950s. Chappa, which were small pieces of metal, were thrown into the crowds of workers who were waiting, and they would fight for the tickets (Chappa). Those who get one must work at the wharves or godowns for the day. When people protested against this system, the police shot and killed three laborers. The Epic Struggle of Day Laborers Against Dock Bosses is about two brothers on opposite sides.
