9-1-1 Season 7 Renewed at ABC: Release Date, Plot & Cast Revealed!

Well, folks, 9-1-1 season 6 ended in May 2023. It was a crazy season for the 118. The May 15 ending was probably the most exciting of all the episodes.

It had a dangerous mission with Bobby (Peter Krause) and Hen (Aisha Hinds), Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt), and Chimney (Kenneth Choi) getting engaged.

Fox picked up the show for a seventh season, but new episodes won’t be shown there. Here’s what to know about season 7: the new network, the stars, the premiere date, spoilers, and more.

Is there going to be a Season 7 of 9-1-1?

Fans found out in May 2023 that 9-1-1 would be back for a seventh season. Not on Fox, though. According to Deadline, the show will be going to ABC for the new season. After hearing that 9-1-1 was switching networks, actor Aisha Hinds wrote on Instagram how happy she was.

When does Season 7 of 9-1-1 start on ABC?

According to TVLine, the seventh season of 9-1-1 starts on Thursday, March 14 at 8/7c on ABC. It comes right after the 20th season premiere of Grey’s Anatomy and the 19th season premiere of Station 19. Each Thursday at that time, new episodes will continue to air. The next day, you can watch them on Hulu and VOD.

Cast of 9-1-1 Season 7

Even though the show is moving to ABC, season 7 of 9-1-1 will have mostly the same cast and characters as seasons 1 through 6. But there are some changes. The character of Albert Han, played by John Harlan Kim, will only be a guest star in season 7 of 9-1-1.

Also, Rockmon Dunbar’s character Michael Grant will not be back at all. To add to the cast, Rick Cosnett will play the recurring part of cruise director Julian Enes.

Besides these changes, the main group of the next season of 9-1-1 will consist of:

  • Peter Krause as Bobby Nash
  • Angela Bassett as Athena Grant Nash
  • Corinne Massiah as May Grant
  • Marcanthonee Jon Reis as Harry Grant
  • Oliver Stark as Evan “Buck” Buckley
  • Kenneth Choi as Howard “Chimney” Han
  • Jennifer Love Hewitt as Maddie Buckley
  • Aisha Hinds as Henrietta “Hen” Wilson
  • Ryan Guzman as Eddie Díaz
  • Gavin McHugh as Christopher Díaz

Why did Season 7 of 9-1-1 move to ABC?

After six seasons, 9-1-1 was dropped by Fox on May 1, 2023. It had been one of Fox’s most-watched and highest-rated shows (The Masked Singer beat it by a few percentage points last season), but not for long. Why?

Anyone would make this choice for the same reason: money. With an experienced group of well-known actors and expensive special effects, 9-1-1 made about $9 million to $10 million per episode, which was too much for Fox to handle.

According to Goodhousekeeping, It made more sense for ABC to move. Fox no longer owns 20th Century Fox TV, the studio that makes 9-1-1. It was bought by Disney, the parent company of ABC, in the big Disney-Fox deal in 2019, after a few seasons of 9-1-1.

Since 9-1-1 is now on ABC, Disney owns the show completely and doesn’t have to share profits with another company. They can keep all the money for themselves. Even though it’s made by 20th Century Fox TV, the 9-1-1 spinoff 9-1-1: Lone Star will still air on Fox.

Evan “Buck” Buckley is played by Oliver Stark. In May, he talked to Variety about the 9-1-1 network move. Stark said that the cast and crew didn’t find out about the change until a few hours before the news release went out.

One of the most interesting parts of the interview was when Stark talked about possible overlaps between 9-1-1 and ABC shows. Since 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Lone Star are on different networks, a crossover between them is “extremely unlikely” at this point.

When asked about the network’s move to ABC, Stark told Variety, “I don’t know, maybe it even opens the door for other crossovers with ABC procedurals.” We might end up on “The Rookie.”

How did Season 6 of 9-1-1 end?

Somehow, Firehouse 118 made it through a bridge fall in Los Angeles that left Bobby missing and Chimney with a bar in his stomach. Athena finds Bobby when she gets there and asks Hen, Buck, and Ravi to help her get him out of a truck container.

Once everyone from 118 is safely released from the hospital, Buck goes home to help his new girlfriend Natalia (Annelise Cepero), who is a death doula, have his friend’s baby. After hearing that she and her wife Karen (Tracie Thoms) might be able to adopt a girl, Hen goes on a date with Marisol (Edy Ganem).

Athena and Bobby finally get on a cruise ship to celebrate their honeymoon at the end of the show.

What Happens in Season 7 of 9-1-1?

The seventh season of 9-1-1 will pick up where season 6 left off in several ways, even though it will be an episode-by-episode series. Their wedding is coming up, and it may be a big part of season 7.

Hen and Karen’s growing family will also be important. Now we know that Athena and Bobby will be in a big plot point in which terrorists take over their honeymoon cruise and end the trip early. It’s not clear how long that specific plot will last.

Where can I find a trailer for season 7 of 9-1-1?

A full-length trailer for season 7 of 9-1-1 was shared by ABC on February 29, two weeks before the show’s premiere.

The first episode of Season 7 is called “Abandon ‘Ships,'” and the trailer makes it look like it will be a thrilling trip.
