New Amsterdam is an American medical drama on NBC. It is based on the book Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital by Eric Manheimer. The first episode aired on September 25, 2018. The show was made by David Schulner and stars Ryan Eggold, Freema Agyeman, Janet Montgomery, Jocko Sims, Anupam Kher, Tyler Labine, and Sandra Mae Frank.

New Amsterdam Season 6: Will There Be Another Season On NBC?
According to sources, New Amsterdam Season 6 has officially been canceled by NBC. The network said the fifth season of the medical thriller, which ended on January 17, 2023, would be the last one. There won’t be a sixth season of New Amsterdam.
The last season was announced in March 2022, more than a year before season 5 began in September 2022. This gave the show ample time to come up with a good finish.
Before the show’s last episode aired, Ryan Eggold, who played Max, posted a lovely tribute to the show on Instagram, along with a picture of himself smiling on the set. He started his speech by saying, “Man this show has meant a lot to me… I’m proud of the many stories we’ve been able to tell over these five years.”
Why Was New Amsterdam Season 6 Canceled?
According to sources, Due to low rating, season 6 of New Amsterdam couldn’t continue, so season 5 was the last. New Amsterdam aired on NBC on Tuesday nights at 10 p.m. EST for its entire run. Its pilot show had a rating of 1.8 and about 14 million viewers, including DVR recordings.
Throughout New Amsterdam’s first season, the 1.8 steadily decreased, finishing with a 0.9 for the season 1 finale. Throughout the first five seasons of New Amsterdam, the show’s ratings and the number of people watching it on the network kept going down. Even though the episodes were good, New Amsterdam had a small following.
The series End of New Amsterdam only had 5.2 million viewers, a far cry from the original 14 million, and its rating dropped to 0.3. The show couldn’t compete with shows like Grey’s Anatomy, which had several spinoffs, or The Resident, which kept its ratings high over six seasons even though its time spot changed.
