Kollywood superstar Vijay’s latest movie Mersal was released on October 18 in over 290 screens, which is the highest for a Vijay movie. The movie has opened to a phenomenal response from fans. As per early reports, Mersal has witnessed above 98% occupancy in almost every centre. At Kochi multiplexes, the movie has grossed over 9 Lakhs on its opening day with an exceptional occupancy of 99.9%. However, the movie couldn’t beat the opening day record set by Bairavaa in Trivandrum Ariesplex.
At Kerala box office the movie has collected a whopping initial of 4.50 crores ,and became the highest grossing Tamil movie in Kerala, beating Kabali.
Directed by Atlee of Theri fame, the movie also features Samantha, Nithya Menon, Kajal Aggarwal, Vadivelu, Sathyaraj and S. J. Surya in important roles. The movie is made with a grand budget of around 130 Crores.
