When Can We Expect Season 2 of The Last of Us?
HBO has now revealed this information. Francesca Orci, the Head of HBO dramas told Deadline that Season 2 is expected to start in 2025. Since production is still ongoing, this plan could change. Auditions for the second season were halted indefinitely in july 2023 as a result of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike action. The strike action is still ongoing, with no end in sight, potentially further delaying Season 2.
Filming for Season 1 took 200 days, with it taking 18-19 days per episode or two-to-three pages of script per day, with post-production eating up even more time. The first shots were taken on July 12, 2021, with production concluding on June 11, 2022. With that in mind, even if the crew began filming the day after Season 1 ended, shooting would not be over before late September. However, The Last of Us: Part 2 is far more extensive than the original, so script writing, filming, and production will take far longer than Season 1.
