There are 86 Malayalam movies were released this year so far. Some of the movie like ‘Happy Wedding’ and ‘Anuraga Karikkin Vellam’ were become super hits unexpectedly. But some other movies had faced unexpected failures. Here is the list of unexpected flops of this year so far.
1. James and Alice
‘James & Alice’ is the movie which marks the directorial debut of renowned cinematographer Sujith Vaassudev. The lead roles are portrayed by Prithviraj and vedhika. The movie got the positive response from the audience but the film can’t do any magic at the box office and became a flop.
2. Shajahanum Pareekuttiyum
‘Shajahanum Pareekuttiyum’ is a romantic comedy film directed by Boban Samuel who earlier directed super hits like ‘Romans’ and ‘Janapriyan’. The movie is written by Y V Rajesh who was the writer of super hits like ‘Romans’ and ‘Three Kings’. This movie was released with huge expectations, but its performance at box office was poor. The movie had an ensemble star cast of Kunchacko Boban, Jayasurya, Amala Paul, Aju Varghese, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Lena.
3. Oru Murai Vanthu Parthaya
‘Oru Murai Vanthu Parthaya’ is a Malayalam fantasy film directed by debutant Sajan K. Mathew. The movie was released with good reports and expected to be a hit. However, the movie can’t sustain its box office performance and became a flop. The star cast of the movie includes Unni Mukundan, Prayaga Martin, Sanusha, Suraj Venjaramooduu and Aju Varghese.
4. Mudhugauv
Mudhugauv was one of the most anticipated movie of the year because of its star cast. The hero of the movie is none other than Gokul Suresh, son of Malayalam superstar Suresh Gopi. The movie is written and directed by debutant Vipin Das and produced by renowned banner ‘Friday films’. But the movie was a flop in the box office.
5. Valleem Thetti Pulleem Thetti
‘Valleem Thetti Pulleem Thetti’ is one of the most awaited movie of this year. The movie stars Kunchacko Boban and Shamili, sister of yesteryear actress Shalini in the lead roles. The trailer of the movie was brilliant and the expectations were huge. But the movie can’t reach up to the expectations and failed to create any impact at the box office.
6. Leela
Leela, directed by Ranjith was one of the much awaited movie of this year. The movie is written by Unni R, starring Biju Menon and Parvathy Nambiar in the lead role. The movie got average response from viewers and a pirated version of this movie was released on torrent sites after four days of the release. Thus the movie turned out to be one of the flop movie of the year.
7. Monsoon Mangoes
The major attraction factor of this movie is its director’s name, Abi Varghese, director of television series ‘Akkarakazhchakal’. The film stars Fahadh Faasil in the lead, and Tovino Thomas, Iswarya Menon, Vinay Forrt, and Vijay Raaz in supporting roles. But the movie can’t make any impact on the box office and became washed out from theatres within a week.
8. Style
‘Style’ is an action thriller movie directed by Binu S, the director of last year’s surprise blockbuster ‘Ithihasa’. The star cast of the movie includes Unni Mukundan, Priyanka Kandwal, Tovino Thomas, Master Ilhan and Balu Varghese. But the director can’t repeat success at box office.
