The character of Shalini Unnikrishnan is based on the real-life story of Nimisha Alias Fathima Isa, one of four girls who fled to Afghanistan and later joined ISIS for the war against US forces in the ISIS-controlled Khorasan Province. Several other girls with Fathima Isa were identified later, including Sonia Sebastian as Ayisha, Merrin Jacob as Mariyam, and Raffaela.
The movie also depicts Rameez, the real-life college boyfriend of Shalini Unnikrishnan, and the character Adah Sharma plays in “The Kerala Story.” Rameez impregnates Shalini and then leaves her. Later, a local cleric marries Shalini to an ISIS terrorist. According to the source, Nimisha is imprisoned in Afghanistan after her husband, an ISIS terrorist, was killed in an attack.

Shalini Unnikrishnan’s real name is Nimisha Sambat, and she is from Attingal, Kerala. As a result of her conversion to Islam, she changed her name to Fathima. Her husband, Bexin Vincent alias Eesa, and she were arrested in 2016 while attempting to leave the country to join ISIS.
